Volare Concepts NewsDubai-Singapore-Battle of Bottrop-Dubai Mon 21st Jan, 13
Yes it has been that Crazy!!!!
So first was the World Championships in Dubai!!! The competition went really well for us. For a new team with only 1 year together we did AWESOME!!! Although we were hoping for a better result, we were really close to the teams that have been together for 3 - 4 years. After round 1 all of the top 6 teams were with in 0.4 points of each other!! It was really exciting. The only other team with a new line up that beat us was Babylon. Every other team has been training and building routines with a few years of competition experience. So this was a great experience for our team and hopefully something we can build on.
The biggest thing that stood out for us from this years World Championships is how high the level is getting in Freeflying. In the past it was always about the top 2 or 3 teams, this year all of the top 10 teams were pulling out some really Awesome stuff with almost the entire top 5 or 6 teams in with a chance at taking a medal. Our small sport is definitely on the way up and it was Fantastic to see!!!!
At the top Team Kristal from France won the competition over 2010's World Champions SoCal Converge from the USA. It was a very controversial competition which was a shame that such an Awesome event can be tarnished by questionable judging. When it comes to Artistics its always very subjective, but this year particularly had some judging decisions that left everyone in the dark. Poor judging aside, Team Kristal took the Gold with a Truly AWESOME Routine. SoCal Converge also brought an EPIC exhibition of Freefly and Babylon showed that even after only a year together with a new line up, they can still put medal winning routines together. So MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to Frazer and Dan on an outstanding first years performance on the team!!!!
From there Mike joined forces with Newly crowned Freefly World Champion Matt Hill to take on the Indoor Skydiving World Championships at Ifly Singapore. It was an Epic Adventure with less than 2 hours training to put a routine together. Mike and Matt as Team Renegades went on to take an AWESOME third place, which with such limited training was an EPIC victory!!! It was cool to put together a really fun routine and take on the old school speed compulsories. It was also a really cool event, especially as The Renegades had Arizona Arsenal as next door neighbours!!!! Yeah, It was MEGA!!!
So from there it was onto the Battle of Bottrop!!! Again The Hill would Join Mike this time with fellow Renegades Dereck Cox and 'Moximus Prime' Kristian Moxnes. Again as Renegades with only 2 hours training they would go onto take an EPIC third!! This really was an Enormous Victory!!!! To place so well, with so little training and having so much fun!!!! It was simply AMAZING!!!!! You can see our routine by clicking the link below or clicking "more" under the story in the right hand column.
From there is was a quick Christmas stop over and back out to Dubai for the Dubai Sequentials and Winter Festival!!!! Another Fantastic event to celebrate the passing of 2012 and the beginning of what looks to be an EPIC 2013!!!
So whats next? Well we have the Mexico Boogie from February, onto Tunnel Heaven in San Francisco, as well as FlajFlaj in Elsinore and the UPT Flight camp in Eloy. Yeah 2013 is gonna be EPIC!!!!! Come get involved!!!!!!
